The Burning Chair Readings presents a New Year’s Day Poetry and Arts Marathon 2-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at the Fayetteville Underground gallery on the downtown Square, 101 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville, Arkansas.

According to the announcement on Facebook, the event will feature brief readings of fiction and poetry as well as music performances from local writers and artists.

Guests are invited to bring a dish to contribute to a potluck, which will run through the day. Beverages will be available from Fayetteville Underground for donations.

The event is free, but $3 or higher donations are encouraged.

And the evening before, at “Last Night Fayetteville” …

The monthly Fayetteville Word Wars will be part of Last Night Fayetteville, also at Fayetteville Underground.

This is an audience-judged spoken-word competition, and the Dec. 31, 2013, program also will feature a performance by musician John Henry. The program runs 7-7:55 p.m. Details can be found at its own Facebook event announcement.

These performance artists will compete: Clayton Scott, Sparkman, Doug Shields, Chris Helms and Molly.

Admission is through Last Night Fayetteville, with tickets available online or onsite that evening at the Fayetteville Town Center. Tickets — $15 in advance and $20 day of event — cover all events throughout the evening.
